The National Centre for Dyslexia and Other Reading Difficulties (NVOL) is an information centre established at the initiative of Denmark’s Government and Parliament as part of the Danish November 2021 Dyslexia Initiative.
The information centre is incorporated into The National Centre for Reading.
The primary purpose of the information centre is to disseminate updated and application-oriented knowledge about dyslexia and other reading difficulties. The information centre contributes to support good teaching practices for children, adolescents and adults across schools and educational institutions as well as early prevention initiatives in day nurseries and schools. Furthermore, the information centre contributes to a continual development and evaluation of teaching practices for children, adolescents and adults with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
The information centre supports and strengthens the collaboration and involvement of relevant knowledge environments with the aim of preventing the development of dyslexia and other reading difficulties as well as minimising the personal impact of such difficulties so that all children, adolescents and adults can have the best conditions for learning and for personal development.
People with dyslexia and other reading difficulties comprise a very diverse group of individuals, and it is the responsibility of The National Centre for Dyslexia and Other Reading Difficulties to gather, distribute and develop knowledge about all aspects of reading difficulties.
The target groups for the centre’s activities are nursery teachers, schoolteachers, education workers, tutors, consultants, literacy coaches, municipal advisers for schools as well as education and research environments dealing with children, adolescents and adults with dyslexia or other reading difficulties. This includes children at risk for developing dyslexia or other reading difficulties.
Accordingly, the centre’s activities have a focus on day nurseries, kindergartens, schools, preparatory education, general and vocational upper secondary education and adult education. The information centre has a responsibility to initiate cross-sector activities as well as activities that accommodate different target groups.
